Saying goodbye to Sandrine and the hidden gem in Belgium, we drove to Germany where North Duisburg Landscape Park in Meiderich awaited us. The remnants of an industrial park was turned into a miraculous unparalleled park thanks to a unique light installation.
In the last 10 years, the industrial zone which covers 180 hectares has changed its coat and become an artwork with numerous widely used parts. For example, old bunkers are transformed into gardens, many huge factories are now becoming an art and cultural center, the old gas tank is restored to be the largest artificial diving center in Europe, and concrete walls are utilized for rock climbing. There is also the world’s largest artificial sand work here. Each place retains its character but still in perfect harmony with the surroundings.
